About William "Pop" Emrey

William "Pop" Emrey coached at the former Bethlehem High School (now Liberty High School) for 38 years, founding its track and field program. He created the Bethlehem Relays in 1928, bringing together, for the first time in the Lehigh Valley, top caliber high school athletes from across the state. The event was renamed in his memory in 1951.

The Emrey Track & Field Association was incorporated in 1967 to carry the torch lit by Pop Emrey in 1928 with the hope that, in this journey at least, there is no finish.
